2017-2018 Internship and Apprenticeship Program

Halton Region is now accepting applications for our Internship and Apprenticeship Program!

Halton’s internships are an excellent opportunity for recent post-secondary graduates to get paid, meaningful experience in their fields for a period of one year. The program is designed to provide interns with mentorship from seasoned professionals and teach them how municipal governments build strong communities.

The program launched in 2016, and our current 16 interns have contributed to a wide range of important projects while developing skills that will help them achieve their career goals. This year, the program will build on its remarkable success, once again offering positions across all Halton departments:

  • Chief Administrative Officer’s (CAO’s) Office
  • Finance
  • Health
  • Legislative & Planning Services
  • Public Works
  • Social & Community Services

Every intern at Halton Region will help support or enhance our essential programs and services, allowing them to personally contribute to the high quality of life in our community. We are proud of the great things our 2016 interns have achieved so far, and I look forward to meeting the motivated, high-performing young people who will start their careers with us this year.

To be eligible, prospective interns must have graduated or will graduate with a recognized post-secondary degree, post-graduate certificate or diploma between January 2016 and June 2017. The positions will run from May 2017 to May 2018. The application period will end February 26.

The Internship and Apprenticeship Program supports and attracts emerging talent, and is just one way the Region helps young workers to succeed and advance their careers. Halton Region named one of Canada’s Best Employers for New Canadians for third straight year

I am pleased to announce that for the third year in a row, Halton Region has been rated as one of Canada’s Best Employers for new Canadians External Link by Mediacorp Canada Inc, based on our commitment to programs and initiatives that help recent immigrants integrate into Halton’s workforce. The award recognizes employers offering programs to assist new Canadians in making the transition to a new workplace and life in Canada. Halton Region participates in several mentoring programs and internships to help foreign trained professionals gain Canadian experience and develop the skills needed to successfully enter the labour market.

It is an honour to be awarded this recognition for the third consecutive year.  This award acknowledges the commitment Regional Council and Regional staff have to ensuring Halton Region is a workplace that values diversity.  Halton Region provides career-track, paid internships to internationally-educated jobseekers through the Career Bridge internship program External Link, hosting interns in asset management, strategic communications, human resources, planning, and transportation services areas.
