At the beginning of each year, Halton mails waste collection calendars to residents throughout the region. The comprehensive resource has grown over the years, and for 2015, we have expanded the resource to become the Halton Region Guide & Waste Collection Calendar, making it even more valuable to residents of all four municipalities.
Appearing at the front of the Calendar, the new content contains essential information about Regional services, an introduction to Regional Council, how to prepare your family for an emergency, key contact numbers and sources for getting the latest information about Halton. As always, the main body of the resource is the waste collection schedule for each municipality, spanning from February 2015 to March 2016. At the back, you will find information on sorting your waste – from Blue Boxes, to GreenCarts, to Yard Waste and more.
The Guide also includes an overview of the Halton Waste Management Site. With the cost of constructing a new landfill nearing $1 billion, the existing site is one the Region’s most valuable assets. Extending its lifespan will save taxpayers $15 million while offsetting a significant cost.
Halton residents have an impressive waste diversion rate, which reached 62 per cent for single-family households. The information included in the Guide supports these efforts, which in turn supports the economy and our natural environment. The responsible use of our resources and protecting green space in Halton helps ensure a high quality of life in our Region both today and in the future.
Our online Waste Collection Calendar tool allows you to check your collection schedule anytime, anywhere, and register for weekly reminders to your phone or email. This service also lets us provide you with updates about holiday collection delays or unforeseen schedule changes. We also publish these updates on Halton’s official Twitter feed, @RegionofHalton.
Of course, our Waste Collection Calendar is only one of the online tools that Waste Management offers to Halton residents. By visiting our website, you can report a missed collection, schedule a pickup for metal items and appliances, order yard waste labels/garbage tags and answer questions about properly sorting your waste for pickup. You can also find more information, including dates and times for Special Waste Drop-off Days and Compost Giveaways, at Halton.ca/waste.
Thank you for your ongoing efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle in our region. Our combined efforts ensure that we help keep Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
